We took the time
to compile an overview of the Iowa Hawkeye Track & Field\Cross Country
programs accomplishments over the past 6 years. I was hired by Coach
Grant in August of 2003 and we have since added two new Assistant Coaches
(Clive Roberts and Christi Smith) and combined operations with our Men’s
program in order to better utilize the 6 full time coaches. Despite
all this transition we have still enjoyed the most successful academic
and athletic period in the history of the program.
We are even more
excited moving forward as we completed renovations on our locker room,
athletic training room, weight room, and will open the gates on our
new outdoor track & field complex in August. Couple these upgrades
with our dedicated cross country course and indoor track & field
facility and we are able to offer some of the best facilities in the
Big Ten and the nation.
Our philosophy as
a coaching staff is to provide every resource possible to the student-athletes
in our program so they can focus their attention on personal growth
and development, academic success and achievement, and athletic accomplishments
above and beyond their wildest expectations. The response we have received
thus far in the recruiting process has been tremendous. We are excited
that many of the young ladies we have communicated with are setting
dates to visit campus and to explore further the academic and athletic
opportunities available as a member of the Hawkeye Family.
Our program motto
for this year and one we feel is very applicable to where we currently
are as a program is a quote from Albert Einstein who stated, “Learn
from yesterday, live for today, and hope for tomorrow.” We are
conscious of our past and the foundation laid by those who have worn
the black and gold of Iowa. As coaches we believe firmly in the notion
that we must always live in the moment and take advantage of every opportunity
that comes our way because success in life is a journey with many stops
rather than a destination and finally we have a great deal to be excited
about with regard to tomorrow for the commitment to Hawkeye Track &
Field\Cross Country could not be greater than it is today.
