Layne
Anderson is in his second year as Head
Women's Cross Country Coach and Assistant Women's Track and Field
Coach at the University of Iowa. Before moving to the Iowa City,
Anderson served as Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach and
Assistant Track Coach at Auburn University (1997-2002), and was
the Assistant Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Texas
Tech (1996-97).
Anderson earned a Bachelor's and Masters of Education, both in Health
and Physical Education from The Citadel in Charleston, SC. He also
pursued his PhD in Exercise Physiology at Auburn University in Auburn,
Alabama. |
An accomplished runner himself, Anderson
was a three-time Southern Conference individual champion in the 800m,
set 10 school records at The Citadel and was named team MVP three
times. He was a member of a USATF national champion distance medley
relay. A three-time Academic All-Southern Conference selection, was
named to the Dean's List four times and the Gold Stars list twice.
The son of an Army Officer, Anderson graduated from Frankfurt American
High School. He was a five-time Department of Defense Schools champion
in the 800 and 1,500 meters and was named Department of Defense Schools
European High School Runner of the Year twice. He was born in Vicenza,
Italy and has lived in Panama, Germany, Korea, California, Georgia,
Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, and Iowa.

Distance Program Goals |
• Score in every distance event at
the Big 10 Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
• Achieve Top 10 Iowa Rankings in every distance event and relay.
• Break a minimum of 2 school records (individual or relay).
• Earn a minimum of 1 Big 10 indoor and outdoor title (individual
or relay).
• Earn a minimum of 5 All Big 10 awards (individual or relay).
• Qualify a minimum of 1 individual and 1 relay for the NCAA Indoor
meet.
• Qualify a minimum of 7 individuals for the NCAA Regional meet.
• Qualify a minimum of 2 individuals for the NCAA Outdoor meet.
• Qualify a minimum of 3 individuals for the U.S. Jr. Championships.
• Earn a minimum of 2 All-American honors during the 2005 track
season.
• Earn a minimum of 1 Jr. All-American honor.
• Win a Drake Relay title (individual or relay).
• Lifetime best performances for every individual who races this
season.
• 3.2 GPA for the distance group in the Spring semester.
• Earn a minimum of 8 Academic All Big 10 awards in Track and Field.
• Have 3 athletes run sub 1:34 for 600m. (Team best: 1:30s)
• Have 3 athletes run sub 2:10 for 800m. (Team best: 2:08)
• Have 5 athletes run sub 5:00 for the mile and 3 run sub 4:50.(Team
best: 4:45)
• Have 4 athletes run sub 10:00 for 3K and 3 run sub 9:40. (Team
best: 9:20s)
• Have an athlete run sub 11:00 for the 3K steeple.
• Have 3 athletes run sub 17:00 for 5K and 2 run sub 16:40. (Team
best: 16:15)
• Have 3 athletes run sub 36:00. (Team best: 34:00) |
