Excellence in the Classroom: Members of the Iowa Cross Country and Track teams have proven to be winners on and off the track. During the Spring 2007 semester of the 34 member squad 22 ladies earned a semester GPA above 3.0, with 10 of those bettering the 3.5 barrier, and 4 earning above a 4.0. Fr. Jolly Burke and Katie Ellis continued their perfection as both earned above a 4.0. For two years in a row, U.S. News & World Report ranked The University of Iowa as the 19th best public university in the country. The University of Iowa also: - Was the first school to admit men and women on and equal basis. - Is home to one of the nations largest teaching hospitals. - Has 15 graduates that won the Pulitzer Prize. - Has the oldest dental college, law school, and neurology department west of the Mississippi. - Is where the butterfly stroke was invented. The Insider's Guide to Colleges 2004 says "The University of Iowa offers its students a picturesque campus, a thriving social scene, and the excitement of its Big Ten athletic teams." University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics ranks overall as one of "America's Best Hospitals" with nine of the hospital's specialties ranking among the nation's top 50 in an annual survey published by U.S. News & World Report.
