Hawks Perform Well in Front of Home Crowd at the 8th MUSCO Twilight

Competing at home for the first time this outdoor season the Iowa Women's Track and Field team thrilled the Hawkeye Fans under the lights at the 8th annual Musco Twilight meet. The quartet of Kineke Alexander, Tiffany Johnson, Peaches Roach, and Meghan Armstrong led the way as many others set bettered their lifetime best performances. On a near perfect day teams from Iowa State, Drake, Minnesota, and Marquette provided the team with some tough competition as they prepare for the Drake Relays this weekend. They were several NCAA Regional marks, school records, and Musco records before the competition closed with the mile relay. All the highlights are detailed below.

100m
Peaches Roach placed first with an NCAA Regional mark of 11.71. This is just off Peaches lifetime best performance.

200m
NCAA Champion Kineke Alexander dropped down in distance top post a PR, NCAA Regional mark, # 2 all-time, and Big Ten leading mark of 23.58.

400m
Lindsey McCalla posted a season best of 56.84.

1500m
Shannon Stanley posted a seasonal best of 4:35.38. She is really looking good in workouts and should challenge her PR of 4:32 this weekend at the Drake Relays.

Fr. Jennie Docherty ran just her 2nd 1500m ever to post a very solid time of 4:48.01. Last year as a H.S. Sr. she had a lifetime best of 2:20 for 800m so she is fast improving as a mid distance runner.

3000m
Meghan Armstrong battled Michaela Courtney from Marquette for 3000m and improved her PR from 9:49 last year to 9:28.03 (#4 all-time) this year. This converts to 10:06 for 3200m. She closed in 70 sec the final 400m and 5 min flat the last 1600m so there is more in there for this distance.

Krista Anderson returned to racing after taking a few races off from a calf cramp suffered just before the Stanford Invite. She ran a very solid 9:45.65 (#9 all-time) and will chase the NCAA Regional mark for 5K at Drake on Thur evening.

Racheal Marchand posted a lifetime best of 10:01.49 and continues to challenge the 10 min barrier. With only 8 runners in the race Racheal ran the entire 3000m on her own and had no benefit from racing in a pack. She will look to lower her 5K PR on Thur at the Drake Relays.

Triple Jump
Tiffany Johnson continues to improve upon her current school record and posted an improvement all the way to 41-3.25.

Pole Vault
Sarah Burgett recorded a milestone in her vaulting career as she cleared 12 feet for the first time with a height of 12-1.75.

Hammer Throw
Becca Franklin posted a solid throw of 173-1, while Erin O'Hern posted a new lifetime best of 166-0 to move to #2 all-time.
